The Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Dr. Yi-Hsueh Lu, MD, PhD; to our Stony Brook Medicine faculty. She will be treating patients in Surgery's Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Lu, who received her MD from Stony Brook in 2019, recently completed a fellowship in Microsurgery and Advanced Breast Reconstruction at Northwell Health in July 2026. She finished an Integrated Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency at Montefiore Medical Center in 2025. Dr. Lu has also earned a PhD from The Rockefeller University in 2015.
"Returning to Stony Brook as a faculty member is incredibly meaningful to me because this is where my journey into medicine began," said Dr. Lu. "As a medical student here, I was inspired by mentors who challenged me, supported my growth, and ultimately helped me pursue a career in plastic surgery. This is a full-circle moment and an opportunity to give back to the institution and community that shaped me as a physician."
Dr. Lu is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. She has published or co-published more than twenty peer-reviewed papers and has been a frequent presenter at national and regional professional conferences.
"After completing my residency and fellowship training in microsurgery, I developed a passion for breast reconstruction and microsurgery," said Dr. Lu. "My priority is to provide patient-centered care while continually advancing the field through research, quality improvement and innovation. I look forward to making a meaningful difference in my patients by restoring not only form and function, but also confidence and quality of life through plastic and reconstructive surgeries."
