The Triological Society awarded the Division of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (ENT) program a travel award to support attendance and presentation at the Combined Sections Meeting, held January 22–24, 2026, in Orlando, FL.
According to Division Chief, Huseyin Isildak, MD, FACS, the Triological Society Travel Award supports medical students, residents and fellows who are selected to present their scholarly work at official Triological Society meetings. This award helps offset travel-related expenses and serves as a meaningful recognition of the quality and impact of the recipient’s research, reflecting both academic merit and professional distinction. Being selected for this award is widely regarded as a mark of prestige, given the Triological Society’s long-standing reputation as one of the most respected and selective academic organizations in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery. By reducing financial barriers to conference participation, the award enables early-career physicians to present their work on a national stage, engage with leaders in the field, and actively contribute to the academic mission of this highly esteemed society.
Medical student, Juyun Hwang, BS, presented at the meeting and led the project. Our recently graduated resident David Lehmann, MD, also played a key role in the project. Senior faculty is from another institute.
"This recognition from the Triological Society reflects what we strive to build — a culture where trainees at every level contribute meaningfully to the field." said Dr. Anisha Kumar, Division Research Lead. "Juyun's work exemplifies the rigorous, mentorship-driven research that we are committed to fostering in our division."
Stony Brook's Division of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (ENT) is one of 72 institutions across the U.S. and Canada to have received an award, totaling more than $135,000, this year. Stony Brook ENT received a $750 award.
"We’re proud to foster collaborative research that earns national recognition and look forward to many more achievements ahead," said Dr. Isildak. "Congratulations to Juyun on this well-deserved honor, and thank you to David and the entire team for their contributions and support.
