On, November 3, 2025, the Stony Brook Medicine Department of Surgery welcomed Dr. Kelly Johnson, DO, to the Division of Breast Surgery. Dr. Johnson will join the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center team and the Renaissance School of Medicine faculty as a Clinical Assistant Professor.

Baldwin Breast Care Center at Stony Brook University Hospital, where I’ll continue providing compassionate, cutting-edge care to patients in our community," said Dr. Johnson. "With expertise in wireless localization, oncoplastic surgery, hidden scar techniques, nipple-sparing mastectomies, and resensation, I’m committed to offering the most advanced breast health and cancer care available today. I also have a special interest in lymphedema prevention and treatment, as well as in caring for the high-risk population. Breast cancer treatment is constantly evolving, and I’m proud to be part of an institution that is not only at the forefront of research, innovation, and surgical excellence, but also deeply committed to serving the local community with world-class, comprehensive care — right here at home."

Dr. Johnson joins Stony Brook after having been a Breast Surgical Oncologist at New York Breast Health - NYCBS (Great Neck/Patchogue/Port Jefferson Station/Westhampton, NY), and the Chief of Breast Surgery (administrative) at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY. She earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia, in 2016; completed a General Surgery Residency in 2021 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Wilkes Barre, PA; and a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY, in 2022. In addition to her undergraduate studies in Biology and Women and Gender Studies, she also completed three study abroad topics in Mexico (Women and Development in Latin America), England (Pre-medical Program) and Rwanda (Gender Equity in US & Rwanda).
Her professional certifications include Fundamental in Laparoscopic Surgery, Fundamental in Endoscopic Surgery, Da Vinci Si and Xi Certification, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Basic Life support. Dr. Johnson is also a member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the Medical Society of the State of NY. She has also authored or co-authored more than a dozen publications, and authored or co-authored more than a dozen abstracts at regional, national and international meetings.
