Dr. Yasmine Yousef Joins Stony Brook Surgery's Division of Pediatric Surgery

Dr. Yasmine YousefDr. Yasmine Yousef, MD, CM, PhD, FRCSC, joined the Division of Pediatric Surgery in Stony Brook Medicine's Department of Surgery, today, October 6th, 2025. Dr. Yousef comes to Stony Brook Medicine from Hollywood, Florida, where she was an Attending Pediatric Surgeon/Fetal Surgeon at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.

Dr. Yousef's practice addresses a wide range of congenital anomalies from before birth to early adulthood. She treats various congenital anomalies in newborns, children and teenagers, including complex cases like gastroschisis, omphalocele, tracheoesophageal fistula and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. In addition, she also treats pediatric surgical emergencies, cancer cases and performs specialized surgeries for chest wall anomalies.

Her experience and expertise in fetal surgery enables her to perform early interventions. She treats a variety of severe congenital conditions in utero, including diaphragmatic hernia, critical valvular stenosis, myelomeningocele, lower urinary tract obstruction, congenital hydrothorax and various fetal tumors. Additionally, she specializes in the prenatal management and treatment for complications in monochorionic twins, such as twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, twin anemia-polycythemia sequence, selective intrauterine growth restriction and twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence.

Dr. Yousef is certified in both General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). She received her medical degree from McGill University (Montreal), completed General Surgery residencies at McMaster University (Hamilton, ON, Canada) and the University of Montreal (Montreal, Qc, CANADA), fellowships in Pediatric Surgery (Montreal Children’s Hospital), Fetal Medicine and Fetal Surgery (Hôpital Necker – Enfants Malade – Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris) and the J.M. Laberge Research Fellowship in Global Pediatric Surgery at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

She has authored or co-authored dozens of publications and abstracts, is a member of several professional/learned societies (including the American College of Surgeons, the American Pediatric Surgical Association and the Royal College of Surgeons), and in addition to her ABS certifications, she has also received professional certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Lie Support.
