Stony Brook Surgery's Dr. Tara Huston Promoted to Professor

Doctor Tara HustonStony Brook Medicine Department of Surgery's Tara L. Huston, MD, FACS, has been promoted to Professor of Surgery and Dermatology in the Renaissance School of Medicine. Dr. Huston joined the Department of Surgery's Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2011.

Doctor Huston is President of the Stony Brook Medicine Medical Staff, Chair of the School of Medicine Committee on Admissions and Leader of the Melanoma Management Team. She is also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons and the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons. And, this past September, was chosen as only the second female (and first Stony Brook physician) to serve as the president of Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons (NESPS).

"As a Renaissance School of Medicine alumna, it is a tremendous honor to become a Professor in the same department that inspired my passion for surgery," said Dr. Huston. I look forward to helping others forge their career paths in surgery, and continuing to contribute to the academic and clinical missions of Stony Brook Medicine."

Doctor Huston, a native Long Islander, not only attended medical school at Stony Brook, but was a Simons Research Fellow in Dr. Berhane Ghebrehiwet's lab in the 1990s. She graduated from Harvard College in 1997 with a biochemistry degree and, after medical school, she completed a general surgery residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell and a plastic surgery residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell/Columbia.
