Recommitting to our Values

When I think about what makes Stony Brook Medicine truly special, it always comes back to one thing: you. It's the way you show up for one another. It's the way you collaborate across teams. It's the commitment you bring to our patients and to each other every single day.

When we actively live our iCare core values in every interaction, every and every patient encounter, we create an environment where great things happen. Our values Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence serve as a road map to how we want to conduct ourselves on a daily basis. They are important and set expectations throughout the organization on how we should interact with one another and those with whom we interact.

As we look ahead and recommit and engage in our values, we have ambitious and exciting goals to strive for: achieving Magnet status, improving our quality and safety outcomes, and elevating the patient experience. These are not just organizational milestones. They are reflections of who we are and what we are capable of together.

And here's the good news: We are already moving in the right direction. Since our last engagement survey in 2023, we have seen statistically significant improvement, including gains in overall engagement. That progress belongs to you. It proves that when we focus on our values and work as one team, we make meaningful strides forward.

Now is the time to build on that momentum.

Let's commit to our purpose, to each other and to the values that define us. When we do, success follows. I am confident in this team. I am proud of the progress we've made. And I am excited about what we will accomplish next.

Thank you for everything you do to bring our values to life every day. Together, we will continue to rise.

Sincerely,

Carol Gomes
