Happy Employee Appreciation Day on March 5

Friday, March 5, is National Employee Appreciation Day, and the perfect opportunity to celebrate and thank YOU.

On the heels of the one-year anniversary of enduring the most difficult fight the world could never have imagined, I find myself reflecting on our truly heroic team and all the innovative and courageous efforts displayed. From our essential front-line staff to our critical support staff, every one of you has stretched well beyond your comfort zone and jumped in to do whatever is needed in this unchartered territory. It leaves me feeling full of so many feelings…. Pride. Admiration. Gratitude. Trust. Togetherness. Hope.

In this dramatically changed and uncertain world, what remains crystal clear is that you are all leaders in this battle and we could not have accomplished all that we have without such an amazing, compassionate and dedicated team. Each of you has a unique perspective and makes a significant contribution to fulfilling our mission and vision every day.

We know this year has been hard and stressful, and that is wearing on us. We care deeply for our employees, and your satisfaction and engagement is extremely important to us. We have made a strong commitment to build and nurture a culture of employee engagement, as engaged employees feel more involved, committed, passionate and empowered. This, in turn, has a direct impact on both the quality of care and the patient experience, which is what we all strive for in every role we play. With your help, we have made strides in our employee engagement efforts despite working through the toughest of times, and we will continue to listen and take action on this journey together.

As we celebrate Employee Appreciation Day, be on the lookout for a special email to learn more about our employee engagement programs, activities and offerings, available support and resources, and opportunities to get involved. We hope you will take this time to recognize and take pride in our collective successes and share in our camaraderie, as we bring compassionate care to our patients, families and the community we serve. We encourage you to provide feedback and ideas on how we can continue to shape the employee experience and culture. You can also learn more by visiting ThePulse.

On behalf of the entire Stony Brook Medicine leadership team, thank you for your hard work and the valuable contributions you make every day. We know the battle is not yet over, but there is hope on the horizon. And we know that by banding together, we can do this! Stay Stony Brook Strong.
