Celebrate Patient Experience Week

This week is Patient Experience Week, a time to celebrate our staff and recognize the importance of the care we deliver and honor our commitment to patient centered care. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on all of the incredible work that our staff is doing for our patients and families during the COVID-19 pandemic and to continue to connect us with the voice of our patients.

Our physicians and staff have shown that incredible care, empathy and compassion are part of who we are here at Stony Brook. Here are some comments from our patients and families highlighting the teamwork of SBUH colleagues in providing coordinated, compassionate and expert care during this incredibly challenging time.

• “All the staff are amazing! I really could not believe how sweet and caring everyone was considering what they have to deal with during this difficult time. Thank you so much!”
• “Despite needing to visit the ER during a pandemic, I felt very comfortable that my safety and the staff’s safety were a top priority. Everyone was very kind.”
• “Wonderful job in making sure I understood what was going on.”
• “Compassionate timely care. The staff was exceptionally awesome.”
• “Excellent hospital, I feel safe and well cared for there. Thank you for all you are doing to care for us during this pandemic. We are so grateful!”
• “Every member of the staff that cared for me was respectful, caring and incredibly brave.”
• “Thank you for keeping me informed and caring about my Dad while he was admitted with COVID-19. Although I couldn’t be with him at the hospital, I knew he was in good hands and you helped decrease my anxiety. Thank you for caring for him like he was your own family member.”
• “The COVID-19 testing at Stony Brook was fast and well organized, the staff were caring, receptive and informative the staff. Thank you for all your hard work!”
• “Thank you for taking the time and helping me connect with my sister using face time while she was in the hospital! Being able to see her made all the difference and helped us cope with all that is happening.”

Be on the lookout this week for a message from one of our current Patient Advisors and a Patient Experience update from Nicole Rossol, Chief Patient Experience Officer. On behalf of myself and our leadership team, thank you for all you are doing to care for our patients and families. Your dedication makes a difference in the lives of our patients and truly inspires us all.
