Chronic Angle-Closure Glaucoma

  • This is an uncommon form of glaucoma. It frequently occurs after complications of eye surgery or an acute attack. African-American patients are especially prone to this form of glaucoma.
  • The onset is insidious, like open-angle glaucoma. Gonioscopy is essential to the diagnosis and management.
  • Treatment includes laser iridotomy and topical medications. Due to the difficulty in arriving at the initial diagnosis, surgery is frequently necessary.
  • The key to treatment is early diagnosis and aggressive therapy.
