  • Smoking cessation Stony Brook University Hospital with Suffolk County Department of Health offer 6-week programs to help quit smoking, meets 1 ½ hours weekly

  • Injury prevention: Injury Prevention Programs at SBU Trauma Center
    • Several injury prevention programs are offered over zoom. Programs include car seat fittings, teddy bear clinics, teen safe driving initiatives, sports safety clinics, parent information sessions, and adult fall prevention.
  • Diabetes education classes: Stony Brook Diabetes Center
    • These classes help patients learn about diabetes. Topics include overview of diabetes facts, meal planning and nutrition, psychosocial adjustment and stress management, and more. Classes are currently being held virtually.
  • Healthy weight and wellness center for children and families: Stony Brook Children's Clinical Programs
    • Clinical programs for children's wellness, including medical assessments and monitoring, diet change, behaviour modification support, and more
  • Fit Kids for Life
    • Fit Kids is a program that is offered to children and families who have cardiovascular disease risk factors, including overweight or obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or type 2 diabetes/metabolic syndrome. This program is aimed to address screening, intervention, and family involvement in the treatment of childhood overweight and obesity using nutritional education, physical activity training, yoga and stress reduction, and behavioral modification strategies.

  • Healthier U **employees only**
    • Healthier U is Stony Brook University's exciting wellness initiative for employees designed to address total well-being-- mind, body, and spirit. Programs include virtual wellness, mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR), campus wellness challenge, and more.
  • Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART) Program
    • Developed at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, SMART is a comprehensive mind-body group focused on teaching coping skills aimed at improving stress regulation, promoting relaxation and increasing connectedness to self and others. SMART will help you achieve these goals by decreasing the physical, emotional, mental and behavioral effects of stress. SMART may be helpful for patients with stress, anxiety and mood problems and individuals with co-occurring health concerns (meaning mental health issues + a physical health issue) – obesity, pain, cancer, diabetes, etc. (13 sessions)
