The overarching goal of our Research Core is to conduct cutting-edge research on women with gastrointestinal diseases and disorders, support junior investigators, and enhance synergy and collaboration among researchers.

The Stony Brook University Women’s Center for Gastroenterological Diseases and Disorders will play a critical role in bringing together a multidisciplinary group of researchers to conduct clinical, behavioral, and translational research. In addition, the Center will attract, encourage, and support young researchers to pursue gastrointestinal women’s health research, while also encouraging established researchers in other fields to incorporate gastrointestinal women’s health research into their work.

The Research Core aims to:

Facilitate collaboration and synergism between multidisciplinary researchers in gastroenterology, wellness and behavioral intervention, and nutrition. Such collaboration will position researchers to conduct ground-breaking clinical research. Areas of research focus will include:

  • Clinical research focused on a multidisciplinary and integrated care model to improve treatment of women with gastrointestinal problems.
  • Clinical research focused on novel interventions and therapeutics.
  • Behavioral research focused on innovative behavioral interventions to reduce the burden of symptoms among women with gastrointestinal problems.
  • Translational research focused on mechanisms of symptom manifestation among women with gastrointestinal diseases and disorders.
  • Provide mentoring to young researchers to facilitate their career development as gastrointestinal women’s health researchers
