    There are three levels of the program, each offered twice a week for 60 minutes for eight weeks. Each level is led by a trained/certified instructor:
    • Level 1: Movements 1-6 (for Beginners)
    • Level 2: Movements 7-12
    • Level 3: Movements 13-21
    • Participants will learn:
      • Balance Skills
      • Proper Body Alignment
      • Coordinated Tai Chi movements

  • Fit Kids for Life
    • Fit Kids is a program that is offered to children and families who have cardiovascular disease risk factors, including overweight or obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or type 2 diabetes/metabolic syndrome. This program is aimed to address screening, intervention, and family involvement in the treatment of childhood overweight and obesity using nutritional education, physical activity training, yoga and stress reduction, and behavioral modification strategies. 
  • Physical therapy
    • Stony Brook Physical Therapy offers evaluations and treatments to patients of all ages, with services including arthritis care, neurologic rehabilitation, orthopedics, spinal dysfunction rehabilitation, and sports rehabilitation.
  • Occupational therapy
    • Outpatient occupational therapy provides care to those physically or cognitively impaired by physical injury and/or illness. Services include burn rehabilitation, dexterity evaluation and training, neuromuscular rehabilitation and therapeutic exercise and joint mobility.
  • Cardiac rehabilitation
    • Stony Brook's Cardiac Rehabilitation is equipped with a full range of exercise equipment, emergency equipment, and therapeutic modalities to rehabilitate patients after congestive heart failure, cardiac transplant, coronary artery bypass, and more.

  • Gyms - silver sneakers program
    •  Available for no cost for adults 65+ through Medicare plans, the Silver Sneakers program provides in-person classes designed for seniors as well as live online classes and workshops and on-demand video workouts.
  • Exercise Science Inc. 
    • Exercise rehabilitation with exercise physiologist accredited by ACSM: facilities in Selden and Uniondale
  • Senior centers Brookhaven Town
    •  A list of locations of senior citizen clubs for the Town of Brookhaven (must be a taxpaying resident of the town to join). Many offer exercise, yoga, and Tai Chi classes.
  • Libraries offer yoga, tai chi and other fall prevention and exercise classes
    • Call your local library or check their website!
  • Suffolk County hiking and biking
    • Long Island trails and hiking paths from beaches to woodlands, this website provides several of the breath-taking state parks in Suffolk County designed specifically for hiking and off-road biking. If you do not have access to a bike, there are locations to find a rental.
  • Mall Walkers Club
    Enjoy a morning of exercise, complimentary snack, blood pressure screening and an informative health lecture by a Stony Brook Medicine expert. Walking is a low-impact, low-risk and easy aerobic exercise that conditions your heart and lungs while engaging your whole body. And Stony Brook Medicine's Mall Walkers Club at the Smith Haven Mall offers the perfect weatherproof environment for walking — with a safe climate-controlled temperature, good lighting, a clean flat surface to walk on, convenient rest rooms and of course, lots of great stores to window shop.

    • A 9 week running plan with 3 runs per week for beginners that is available via downloadable weekly podcasts
  • Daily yoga
    •  This app is focused on providing intuitive and comprehensive yoga for everyone. Various yoga instructors provide different courses over different lengths of time to help with self-improvement. It is free to download and use, but a Pro plan starts at $5.83/month for one year. Going pro unlocks all yoga classes right away, provides scheduled plans and music to be set as background music, and allows history and data tracking.

    • BetterMe offers different health and fitness apps with a free trial for any specific fitness goal from weight loss and running to meditation and yoga
  • Nike Training Club
    • A personal trainer app with a free version that offers over 100 strength training, cardio, mobility, and yoga workout videos and a Premium version ($14.95/month) that gives access to 4-8 week structured training programs alongside health and wellness advice from nutrition and recovery experts

  • FitOn
    • Free app. Asks for your age, height, and weight. It then prompts you to choose what your aim is for working out (ie weight loss, toning, etc), choose various workouts that you prefer (ie strength, cardio, dance), and select how many days you want to work out per week.
      Other categories include strength, cardio, toning, HIIT, flexibility, stretch, yoga, at work, prenatal, etc. Also helps with tracking meals/recipes: They provide recipe options based on your interests/ask what prohibits you from eating health such as income/lack of knowledge/lack of motivation.
  • To hike locally, download the app: All Trails, it will provide you with local trails, pictures, information about the trails such as distance, level of intensity, dog friendly and reviews
  • StretchMinder- Daily Movement
    • App to help people who work a lot behind the desk to stretch and get movement and blood flow to the body which is mostly stationary. Provides a 7-day free trial
