      • “Stronger Together” Cancer Support Programs
        • Every patient is offered an on-site massage therapy session while waiting for an appointment or during chemotherapy. Our full schedule of cancer wellness and support services are open to the community—including aerobic fitness classes, such as “Body Sculpt” or Boxing;  Nutrition Classes & Food Demonstrations; Yoga; Meditation; and, access to a series of support groups.  Classes are held virtually.

  • Code Lavender
    • This code provides a rapid response to the emotional needs
of staff after unexpected or adverse events. Any employee
can call a silent code (not called overhead) by dialing the operator (3-2-1) and requesting a Code Lavender. A callback number,
the unit and the name of the individual requesting the code is given to the operator, and a responder will return your call. This service is available 24/7. The purpose is to provide psychological, emotional and spiritual support to all staff members depending on the needs of the individual or group of individuals involved.
  • Spiritual care hotline: chaplains are available Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm at (631) 559-6211. For more urgent matters, please call the hospital operator and request the chaplain on-call (24/7)
  • Hardship fund
    • if you are experiencing a financial emergency, the Hardship Fund is available to all faculty, staff, and students (www.stonybrook.edu/hardshipfund )

  • The Association for Mental Health and Wellness offers a variety of programs for those facing serious mental illness and people in our community who are facing mental health issues. We offer support for their families and caregivers, and ensure that residents of Suffolk County have the support they require to gain and maintain mental wellness.

  • LI Health Collaborative
    • LIHC is a hub of population health activities on Long Island and a large coalition working together toward a healthier Long Island Community. It has a rich compilation of resources regarding mental health, substance abuse, preventive health screenings, education, free testing, housing, health services, chronic disease, senior services and more.

    • Supporting elders in their desire to remain at home for as long as possible, Day Haven nis a social model adult day service program providing day-time care, a full range of therapeutic activities, and supervision for frail older adults and those with Alzheimer's or a related dementia
  • LI Alzheimer's and Dementia Support Groups
    • Long Island Alzheimer's and Dementia's Center provides innovative services addressing each stage of AD and dementia. All programs are research based and designed to improve the quality of life to help prevent premature nursing hoome placement. They offer a variety of programs, including early stage, moderate stage, and late stage Alzheimer's programs, along with caregiver respite and caregiver support groups, brain fitness workshops, transportation services, and various events
       

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

  • RSVP Suffolk: Diverse volunteering opportunity for seniors available here. The program coordinator will ensure that need, skill and desire are matched to the volunteer opportunity, and you are provided with support needed

Support for Lonely Depressed Older and Disabled Patients

  • The Institute on Aging’s 24-hour, toll-free, Friendship Line is designed to support people the age of 60 and older and adults living with disabilities. Their trained volunteers specialize in active listening and friendly conversation with depressed older adults.

The National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP), established in 2000, provides grants to States and Territories, based on their share of the population aged 70 and over, to fund a range of supports that assist family and informal caregivers to care for their loved ones at home for as long as possible.
     
  • Eldercare Locator - Are you a family caregiver in need of information or assistance? Are you interested in learning more about the programs and services that may be of assistance to you or your loved one? The Eldercare Locator, a public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging, is the first step to finding resources for older adults in any U.S. community. Just one phone call or Website visit provides an instant connection to resources that enable older persons to live independently in their communities. The service links those who need assistance with state and local area agencies on aging and community-based organizations that serve older adults and their caregivers.
     
  • Family Caregiver Alliance - Established in 2001 as a program of Family Caregiver Alliance, the National Center on Caregiving (NCC) works to advance the development of high-quality, cost-effective policies and programs for caregivers in every state in the country. Uniting research, public policy and services, the NCC serves as a central source of information on caregiving and long-term care issues for policy makers, service providers, media, funders and family caregivers throughout the country.

  • U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Office of Women’s Health - Tips for Caregivers  - FDA Office of Women’s Health understands caring for someone can be rewarding, but challenging. FDA’s Tips for Caregivers website provides tools to help caregivers manage the care of their loved ones. The website provides tips for caregivers of older adults, young children, teens and people with special needs. The website also highlights 7 tips for all caregivers to know.  FDA Office of Women’s Health also provides information on women and clinical trials.
