Led by a childbirth educator, this five-part series is open to patients starting at 24 weeks. During this series, we will provide:
- Evidence-based information about all types of childbirth
- Planning, communications and navigating unexpected events
- How to increase safety and confidence, and decrease risks and fear
- Pain management options
- Partner support techniques

For anyone registered for the Prenatal/Childbirth Education series, you are eligible to register for the following free workshops:
Breastfeeding/Lactation Workshop
Located at either Advanced Specialty Care location:
4 Smith Haven Mall, Lake Grove
or
500 Commack Road, Commack
Led by a CLC's and IBCLC's, this one day workshop is open to patients taking the comprehensive childbirth education series through Stony Brook. This class will cover practical skills and evidence-based information to support feeding your newborn, including latch and positioning, common challenges, and community resources.

Optimal Positioning Workshop - Coming June 2026 (offered in English only)
The Optimal Maternal Positioning (OMP) Workshop empowers expecting parents with techniques to support optimal fetal
positioning throughout pregnancy and labor. This course teaches evidence-based strategies to help encourage the baby to move into the best position for birth, potentially reducing labor complications, discomfort, and the need for interventions. With a focus on comfort, movement, and positioning, you’ll learn how to create a more efficient and positive birth experience for both mom and baby.
VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) Course (offered in English only)
This is a free two-part class designed for individuals for whom VBAC may be an option and for those who would like to learn more about VBAC at Stony Brook Hospital.
During this class we will provide:
- VBAC vs Repeat C-Section
- Understand your options, including benefits, risks, and who is a good candidate.
- What to Expect
- How TOLAC (Trial of Labor After Cesarean) labor is managed, including monitoring and support throughout.
- Maximize Success
- Simple, evidence-based ways to improve your chances of a successful VBAC.
We welcome all patients and their support person(s) to attend these classes (you do not have to be pregnant to attend).
