The Stony Brook Emergency Department Patient Navigator Program was created to support
patients suffering from ongoing effects of trauma, by:
- Helping patients identify the educational resources they need
- Providing information about a range of different approaches to healing and recovery
- Helping patients decide if trauma therapy is right for them
- Helping patients who want therapy select among a wide array of local and online therapists
offering a variety of approaches, after identifying patients' preferences and constraints - Providing assistance securing an appointment if needed
- Providing guidance on self-help materials
- Connecting patients with a variety of additional treatment resources, such as:
Domestic violence services
Substance abuse treatment
Postpartum support
Treatment resources for eating disorders
