Laura Chan is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry as well as directs and coordinates the new Nurse Practitioner of Psychiatry Residency Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at the Stony Brook School of Medicine. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences from Stony Brook University, a Master of Social Work degree from Adelphi University and a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Stony Brook University. Her professional experience in healthcare began as a Psychiatric Social Worker providing case coordination and psychotherapy services to a diverse population of children, adolescents, and adults in Outpatient Community Mental Health Programs throughout Suffolk County. From there she expanded her education, skills, and professional experience as an RN and worked in hospitals on both medicine and psychiatric services. As a board certified PMHNP she continues to provide outpatient treatment to adults with a wide range of mental health issues using a variety of treatment options specialized to the needs of each individual.
