Be the change you wish to see.
When more young Black males see more Black male doctors, they will say, “I can do that, too.” Today, however, Black men have the lowest life expectancy in the U.S. And only 2 percent of doctors in the U.S. are Black men. We can do better than that. We must. For everyone’s sake.
“Black Men in White Coats” is a powerful 80-minute documentary that highlights the lack of Black men in medicine and encourages communities to support high school and college-age Black males in becoming physicians. In addition to the free screening, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the film with our panelists and gain insights into the Black male experience in medicine and learn about programs Stony Brook offers to help attract Black males to the field of medicine.
This free screening was made possible by the generosity of the American Medical Association.
