We’re home to more than 100 research labs and nearly 100 clinical research trials, where our patients can access the latest diagnostic tools and medical treatments before they are widely available.
A robust research endeavor, including both basic and clinical and basic sciences, is vital to the mission of all 25 academic departments within Stony Brook Medicine.
Many of our researchers have been recognized through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for multimillion-dollar study awards. Some of the hundreds of research projects underway include:

Office of Scientific Affairs
(OSA) Supports a vibrant base of scientists engaged in all aspects of biomedical discovery - basic, translational and clinical research, as well as biotechnology and drug development.

Covid-19 Data Commons Initiative
RSOM at Stony Brook University has developed a Data Commons, that supports integrated management, query and analysis of clinical, radiology, pathology, spatial and molecular data of COVID-19

Biomedical Informatics
Advancing biomedical knowledge through innovative data science education and research. We train and prepare students and postdoctoral researchers to become leaders in the field.
