Stony Brook University Hospital Names New Chief Human Resources Officer

Colette BrownColette Brown recently joined Stony Brook University Hospital as the new Chief Human Resources Officer. A seasoned human resources executive, Brown has a broad range of experience in all facets of human resources, including employee relations, labor relations, compensation, talent acquisition both domestic and international, corporate compliance, employee benefits, and training and development.

A native of Long Island, Brown comes to Stony Brook having most recently served as the Chief Human Resources Officer for Mercy Health System of Southeastern Pennsylvania, part of Trinity Health, one of the largest Catholic healthcare systems in the country. There she was responsible for all areas of human resources for three hospitals, multiple physician practices and a large home health organization.

Previously, Brown served as the Vice President for Human Resources at Melmark, an educational and residential facility serving adults and children with intellectual disabilities. She spent the majority of her career at Crozer-Keystone Health System, the largest healthcare system and the largest employer in Delaware County, PA.

“Over the course of her career, Colette Brown has been a catalyst and change agent for building top-tier performance cultures, as well as for identifying and implementing process and system improvements,” said Ernest J. Baptiste, CEO, Stony Brook University Hospital. “She has also developed and introduced several employee communication vehicles all aimed at information sharing, garnering employee input and following up on and implementing employee suggestions.”

Brown earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Adelphi University and her master’s in human resource management from Widener University. She has also earned certifications as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and a Society for Human Resources Senior Certified Professional (SHRM–SCP), both prestigious human resources certifications for those who have demonstrated a strategic mastery of the HR body of knowledge.
