Avner Hershlag, MD, FACOG, Joins Island Fertility, A Practice In Stony Brook Medicine's Physician Network

Avner Hershlag, MD, FACOGAvner Hershlag, MD, FACOG, has joined Island Fertility, a full-service fertility practice in Stony Brook Medicine's expanding network of community practices and physicians located at Stony Brook Medicine's Advanced Specialty Care Center in Commack. 


Dr. Hershlag is dual board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI). He graduated from the Hadassah Medical School in his native city, Jerusalem, Israel and completed three years of a general surgery residency at Hadassah Hospital in Israel. Dr. Hershlag then moved to the United States, where he completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.  After his residency, he completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Yale School of Medicine. His research has recently focused on the impact of genetics on infertility, fertility preservation and prevention of cancer through genetic screening and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). As an advocate of access to fertility care for all, he frequently lectures on ethical issues of current and emerging reproductive technologies.

Dr. Hershlag served as Chief at Northwell Fertility for the better part of the last decade, where he developed programs for IVF, egg freezing, preimplantation, genetic testing, donor eggs and fertility preservation for cancer patients. He is looking forward to working with the team at Island Fertility and collaborating with departments across Stony Brook Medicine to expand on programs like these.
