Westchester EMS (WEMS) was started in 2000 as part of the Stellaris Health Network. The hospital network was comprised of four members: Lawrence Hospital, Northern Westchester Hospital, Phelps Memorial Hospital, and White Plains Hospital. The hospitals continue to serve on the WEMS Board of Directors. WEMS began providing non-emergency transport services to the member hospitals, and emergency paramedic fly-car services to the towns of Bedford, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge and Somers. Since then, WEMS has expanded to providing non-emergency and emergency ambulance services to many more facilities in Westchester County. We also provide mutual aid emergency ambulance response to a number of Westchester communities. Our paramedic fly-car service has also expanded to include the Town of Mount Pleasant. WEMS continues to operate as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency.
Westchester EMS (WEMS) has advanced and basic life support ambulances available to respond for emergencies anywhere in Westchester County. WEMS regularly responds to nursing homes, assisted living facilities, doctors offices, correctional facilities and other locations. WEMS also responds to many areas as part of the county mutual aid plan alongside our volunteer EMS partners. WEMS has provided paramedic fly-cars to the 45 Medic area since 2000. This area includes the Towns of Bedford, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge and Somers. The medics respond alongside 10 volunteer EMS agencies. The coverage area is 200 square miles with a population of about 100,000 people. In 2017, the medics responded to over 6000 calls.
