Center for Pain Management

The health care professionals of the Center for Pain Management at Stony Brook Medicine are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of your chronic pain.

We understand the complexity of our patient's pain and the suffering experienced by many individuals with persistent pain.

We provide a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the management of your pain. We evaluate each individual and customize our treatment plan to your unique needs. Our goal is to alleviate your pain and help you become more functional.

Pain Management Experts

With a reputation as a leading authority on pain management, we have been providing care to Long Island since 1982. Our team is made up of double board-certified physicians who are dedicated experts in the field of pain medicine. We use the biopsychosocial model of medicine to treat chronic and acute pain, provide palliative care, and improve the functionality and quality of life of our patients. We work in partnership with area physicians to offer consultations, diagnoses, plans of treatment and multidisciplinary care before returning the patient to his or her primary care doctor.

Our Lake Grove facility includes an in-office procedure suite for interventional pain management procedures such as fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation, radio frequency ablation, and access to Stony Brook’s wide range of state-of-the-art resources and technology.

Within the fluoroscopy suite, we do Interlaminar and transforaminal epidural steroid injections, facet joint blocks and injections, intercostal nerve blocks, stellate ganglion blocks, and lumbar sympathetic blocks on a daily basis. And, we are one of the few Pain Centers around the country to utilize ultrasound-guided nerve blocks.

In 2024, Dr. William Caldwell, DO, was designated as an Intracept™ Procedure Center of Excellence for his "continued dedication to delivering positive patient outcomes with this proven treatment for chronic vertebrogenic low back pain."
