Stony Brook Medicine plans to establish a low-acuity unit to address capacity issues in its Emergency Department at Stony Brook University Hospital. The new unit is designed for treating patients with minor injuries or conditions that do not require a gurney or bed.
Our goal is to reduce wait times and improve overall patient outcomes. The low acuity unit will have a new dedicated space and resources, and will formalize the Priority Initial Treatment (PIT) process, which has been investigated by the hospital, and found to have positive results.
