Honoring Our Veterans

As we honor our veterans today, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to our nation’s veterans and especially to all those Stony Brook Medicine faculty and staff who have selflessly served in the armed forces to protect our country and the freedoms that we enjoy today. Our lives are forever enriched by your sacrifice.

At Stony Brook Medicine, we are privileged to provide outstanding care to these brave men and women through the dedicated staff of our own Long Island State Veterans Home, which serves honorably discharged veterans, their spouses and widows, as well as Gold Star parents. Services available at the Veterans Home include short-term rehabilitation, traditional long-term skilled nursing care, Alzheimer’s/dementia care and palliative/end-of-life care. They also offer a medical model Adult Day Health Care program for veterans living in the community.

We are proud of the longstanding partnership that we share with the Veterans Home, which serves as a national model for research, education and the training of tomorrow’s long-term care and geriatric professionals. And we are equally proud to provide essential healthcare for Long Island’s veterans throughout the year.

On Veterans Day, I hope you will join me in recognizing and celebrating our veterans, as well as our healthcare professionals who ensure their good care. Thank you all, today and every day, for your valuable contributions to our country. I’m extremely proud to be working among you.

Carol
