Stony Brook’s Department of Kidney Transplant recently participated in a real-life documentary to help shed light on living kidney donation. The documentary, titled “Bean,” can be viewed on the FUSE network
This documentary is based on a young woman with Lupus who was on the kidney transplant wait list. It takes you through the struggles with her illness to finding a living kidney donor to the transplant workup process, the transplant surgery and living donor surgery itself, to finally the outcome of the transplant and how it has restored her quality of life. It features our very own Dr. Wayne Waltzer, Dr. Frank Darras, the Kidney Transplant Team and other staff members throughout Stony Brook University Hospital as they take part in this journey.
