New Year, New You - Women's Wellness Tips

Staying healthy takes a concerted effort, but with a little planning, the year 2020 can be the time for a “New Year, New You!” Small steps, as well as significant steps, count. Here are some simple ways to take your wellness to an all-time high and feel good while doing it: 

Make Exercise A Priority

If you’re intimidated by going to the gym, you can still become an exercise enthusiast and benefit from the way working out will make you feel.  All activity matters, so find ways to get your heart rate up a few times each day. Approximately 40% of breast cancer is diagnosed as a direct result of self-exams.  As the second leading cause of death among women, breast cancer is a frightening possibility. Still, early detection makes a world of difference in your treatment and survival rates.  Regular mammograms and self-exams are the best way to remain proactive about your health.  Once a month is recommended, and it should take place in the shower, in the mirror, and lying down to make sure that you can scan all areas of both breasts and armpits. 

Eat Mindfully
In order to maintain a healthy weight, there are some small changes you can make. Watch your portion size.  Add more fruits and vegetables at each meal, as plant-based eating promotes longevity and disease prevention.  Keep healthy snacks within reach, as making the right choice is easier when it is accessible.  Nuts, popcorn, seeds, and whole-grain crackers are solid options to keep you on course. 

Be Present Each Day 
Connect with your friends, family, and co-workers daily. Put your cell phone down and engage in one on one interactions to uplift your mood and spirit. Enjoy each moment as it happens rather than worrying about documenting it.
