Before getting started, be sure to contact the IRB, HIPAA Privacy Office, and/or the REDCap support team to better understand the compliance requirements for your project.
Important note regarding appropriate use:
- Please note that for auditing and support reasons, REDCap @ SBM may not be used collect clinical data supporting clinical operations, regardless of whether the data will be used for research at some point in the future. The chain of customy (CoC) and single source of truth (SSoT) of all clinical operations data rests with the EHR and supporting systems.
- Additionally, per our software license, you may not host projects for use by an external facility (i.e. third-party hosting), with the exception of multisite research studies that are led by SBU.
Therefore, if your project will involve (a) clinical operations or (b) external sites, collaborators, or study participants, then, before getting started, please reach out to the REDCap support team to ensure your use case is feasible and permissible. Unfortunately, we will not be able to assist with studies that are out of compliance and will require all such project activity to cease upon discovery. This is to ensure we remain complaint with our agreements and policies, so we can continue making this software available to the Stony Brook community at no additional cost.
