FIVE AT STONY BROOK MEDICINE NAMED HEALTHCARE HEROES
Stony Brook Medicine is pleased that five of our programs and staff receive Health Care Heroes awards from Long Island Business News. They were among those honored at a breakfast on Nov. 5.
The winners were:
- Achievements in Health Care: The Stroke Program, which has accomplished an IV tPA rate of 45 minutes or less, 53 percent of the time, and continues to improve. The program has been recognized by The Joint Commission with Advanced Stroke Certification and by the American Heart Association as a Gold Plus Stroke Program for outcomes and process measures.
- Health Care Professional: Josephine Connolly-Schoonen, PhD, RD, Executive Director of Stony Brook Medicine’s Nutrition Division. A Registered Dietitian and Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, she oversees the Stony Brook Heights organic gardening program, including the rooftop garden at the hospital.
- Hospital: Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, the only children’s hospital in Suffolk County.
- Nurse Hero: Adriann Combs, RN, Regional Perinatal Coordinator for the Regional Perinatal Center at Stony Brook, Suffolk County’s only such facility.
- Physician Hero: Frank Darras, MD, Associate Professor, Department of Urology, and Medical Director, Transplantation Services at Stony Brook Medicine, who serves as Medical Director of Transplantation Services, along with Wayne C. Waltzer, MD, FACS. Stony Brook provides Suffolk County’s only kidney transplant program. It was the first such program on Long Island and remains the most active program on the island.
Congratulations to all the winners from Stony Brook Medicine. They are just a few of the thousands of healthcare heroes who do tremendous deeds of service every day.
