Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC) Acknowledges Stony Brook Medicine’s Commitment to Preventing Illness

One of the cornerstones of Stony Brook Medicine is our dedication to preventive medicine through primary care.

And now our dedication to keeping patients as healthy as possible from birth has been recognized by the Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC) of New York City.

PCDC honored Stony Brook at its Annual Spring Gala on June 5 at Pier Sixty in Manhattan, where three distinguished New York healthcare leaders were honored, including L. Reuven Pasternak, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Stony Brook University Hospital and Vice President for Health Systems of Stony Brook Medicine.

“Stony Brook Medicine has always strived to develop excellence in primary care in its traditional sense, by training primary care physicians, nurses and other staff,” said Dr. Pasternak “And now, we’re going even further by taking a lead in integrating preventive care programs into comprehensive community and population-based care well beyond the hospital by providing food programs, shelter, education, and transportation as part of healthcare for our region.”

Stony Brook primary care healthcare providers instruct patients on how to prevent illness when possible though positive lifestyle choices, such as not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a nutritious diet, getting vaccinated and having regular routine checkups.

“It is an honor for us to be recognized by the PCDC for the work we’re doing in the primary care arena,” Dr. Pasternak said.
