Support Stony Brook Cares

The true holiday spirit is one of kindness, compassion and caring. It is a time of generosity toward others, a season that is about giving back and being grateful.

In the spirit of giving, each year Stony Brook University Hospital participates in the State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) campaign to support a multitude of local, regional, national and international charitable organizations. SEFA is the solicitation of State employees in their workplaces on behalf of approved charities, authorized through State Law and Regulations and supported by labor and management. This annual fundraising effort supports organizations that feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, nurture the sick, care for older adults, protect the environment and make an overall difference in the lives of others.

For over 45 years, the SEFA campaign has been a partnership of state employees, public employee unions, management and not-for-profit organizations. Through SEFA, state employees can support charities of their choice through a single pledge, easily paid through payroll deduction or by check.

As interim CEO of Stony Brook University Hospital, I’m proud to be a part of the Stony Brook University community. It does not surprise me that so many of you have given generously to the Stony Brook Cares SEFA campaign over the years. My hope is that you will continue to do so again this year, so that we can make a difference in the lives of others in our communities. Making a contribution to Stony Brook Cares is simple and allows you to specify which organizations will receive your support.

Simply designate the charity(s) of your choice on your pledge form by entering its code and the amount you wish to pledge. By using the code of the charity of your choice, you can ensure that your donation goes to the cause or causes that are most important to you.

With more than 500 charitable organizations to choose from and several Stony Brook University affiliations, you are sure to find a good fit for your contribution. To donate, visit www.stonybrook.edu/sefa. You can make your donation online or you can download a form and send it to:

As we prepare for joyous holiday celebrations with our loved ones, it is important to stop and reflect on the blessings in our lives, while also being aware that not everyone is so fortunate. Thank you for helping our Long Island neighbors and others in need around the world through your contributions to the Stony Brook Cares Campaign.
