Couple Pledge $10,000 to Support Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital

Mark and Gloria Snyder offer creative way to encourage donations by “liking” their page

STONY BROOK, N.Y., March 12, 2012 – When Mark and Gloria Snyder put their support behind an organization, they put their money into the cause, not just their hearts.

Mark is President of Mark J. Snyder Financial Services, Inc., located at 1731 N. Ocean Ave. in Medford. Gloria, his wife, is Vice President of the firm. In a show of support for Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital, the couple has pledged to donate $10 to the children’s hospital for every person who “likes” the company’s Facebook page at They have capped their total donation at $10,000, or the equivalent of 1,000 new Facebook fans.

“The smallest babies, the sickest children, the most complex pediatric trauma patients all get sent to Stony Brook Children’s,” said Gloria, who recently was named Chairman of the Stony Brook Medicine Development Council. “As part of an academic medical center actively engaged in research, Stony Brook Children’s also offers families access to groundbreaking, and often lifesaving, clinical trials. This is a way for everyone to help provide a healthier future for kids on Long Island.”

Since becoming Chair of the Development Council in January, Gloria has established goals for the Council to recruit additional members, strengthen its advocacy activities, and increase community awareness of and engagement in Stony Brook Medicine, to advance its mission of delivering world-class medical care. Clearly, she is already taking her new role to heart – and leading by example.

“We are very grateful to have the support of dedicated Stony Brook University alumni such as Mark and Gloria,” said Margaret M. McGovern, MD, PhD, Professor and Chairman, Department of Pediatrics, Stony Brook University School of Medicine, and Physician-in-Chief, Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital. “It’s appropriate that two financial planners are helping us plan for a better future for the children of Long Island by supporting Suffolk County’s only children’s hospital.”
